Attempting to learn all these aspects together :
1. 4-wheeler driving
2. 2-wheeler
3. Mridangam
4. Pentaho Stack
Started with the BAGDE Motor Training school. Bought a second-hand kinetic-honda for local travel (motivated by the sum total of money spent on the non-metre-auto-fare). I need a helmet before I move beyond the gallis of my building. After a hectic unsuccessful search for a Tabla guru, I settled for carnatic this time(Tabla is predominantly Hindustani). Pameshwaran Sir is just fabulous. Last I attended his concert at the Balaji Mandir, Nerul. For bread, butter, emi & pay for my extravagances I am learning to pick skills on the BI stack provided by Pentaho.
They say our late Prime Minister PV Narasimharao was competent in more than 10 languages. VM was talking about the great Aurobindo over lunch, who mastered various languages(both European as well as Indian). It was his urge to understand the original thought in the originally written language itself that got him to study almost all native western languages. My college friends Niju is mallu and Harshu is marathi and they both communicate in Hindi/English at home. Aniya, their child doesn’t know that it’s a complex mix, she is picking up all of the languages; mallu from her grandparents, marathi from her mom and hindi/english from both her parents. The cutest part is she calls her mom “Aai” instead of the regular “Amma” when she wants to request some favour :) The new generation rocks.
Like JV says, each new learning is giving rise to a new confidence in life. Feeling of been there done that. Was never tempted to attempt to buy a bike or even learn driving during my college days due to the simple Environmental hazard crap dwelled in to our brains. Most of my travel has been in the great local trains of Mumbai. They said it’s environmentally friendly then. Now when I study climate change and renewable energy closely, it looks like everybody hides the fact that the trains are powered by electricity. And most of the electricity generated in India is through Thermal Power stations which in very brief burn coal and convert thermal energy to electricity. Where are we environmentally friendly then? Then they said solar and wind energy are good bets. I would say they are better bets not the best right now, since the materials involved in building devices which are used in capturing the natural energies available in abundant are produced in a polluting manner. So the total env. benefit roughly is the
(pollution saved in the life time of the device) - (pollution while the device was being produced starting from the raw material excavation*)
*This will also include the pollution caused by the other devices used to create this new device.
Such a complex bet. Our ancestors they say, always used environmentally friendly equipments. This didn’t stop them from advancement, they mastered many arts and sciences including astrophysics, surgery, metallurgy.
Probably the Industrious attitude makes even the seemingly non-polluting process also pollute.
Corrections from Niju :
1. Ania is actually Aniya
2. If you wanna control pollution then always ensure that your bike carries atleast 3 people and the car you drive carries 7-8 personnel to even try equaling the carbon emission of the trains. It might not sound too gr8 from someone who has been on the road for the past 5 years however, I was hit by this stats by someone who works for Tata groups mission of saving the planet and I have found that she is right. So just passing it on.
Thanx Niju.
