My love for Criket

Windows Live Writer too is fanatic abt this game. It shows a spell-check error :( I am not gonna correct it for whatever.

I have never wanted to understand the unnecessary craze for the now Geo-Political game of Cricket. Sashi said it’s the ‘breath of the country’ <desh ki saas hai>, Janak says, ‘Oh! Man you wont understand it’. I was razed, not once, to the ground (though humiliating backlashes) within my so called close circles while I tried to poke my nose while THE GAME is on.

Once just because I asked if Kumble is still the Captain, since I couldn’t see him in the almost 5 overs I forced myself to watch them play. Not only was it a 7200 min long game, India was facing one of the lowest ranked teams. My Galli kids would have given the other team a tough one, had it been played by their custom rulz (ek tappa out, ful-toss on the close left-side wall out, six out).

It took my senses ages to perceive that first-class cricket is played with a season-ball, which ensures the batsman at the min wears an under-guard (ok it has a name, Abdominal Guard) and ofcourse the other show shinings (gloves, pads, helmet, elbow guard, etc), if he trusts the bowler can bowl a full-length(guys, I really don’t know what this term really means).

There was a roar of laughter when I confessed that during VISIONS (98 | 99) time, I represented SIES at Cricket. Yes it was an inter-collegiate tournament at the SPACE. Jigs & Ani can still feel trickles in their stomachs. But they laughed when I completed my confession. Someone came shouting while our gang was lazing on the steps outside the college, that we need 8 guys urgently to go to SP. There was no second thought for us, BSc first & second year students during those days. What better than freaking out and I am so happy that I am able to write about it today :) Well it was a box-cricket tournament using hard-tennis balls colored in florescent green. The format was like a up-side-down binary tree, it’s called league matches. We got to play just the first one due to obvious reasons. It was not because of me, I very well know that it’s a team effort, I alone can’t be blamed. Coming to the facts I hazily remember, we batted first and no body cared to call me in the initial order. The match was just a 5-over or so. But I was the lead fielder. Missed a catch or two, but that was far less an offence than letting at-least 3 out of 5 balls coming my way to cross over the boundary. I swear the 3 I used to miss were roaring at-least at speeds beyond 200 km/hr (My driving lessons are giving me sense of velocity :). I didn’t understand till very late why our captain changed the field settings after ever boundary.

My well-wishers have warned me against writing about the Game, but I couldn’t resist. Sorry Jigs, Sorry Ani, Sorry Sashi.

LONG LIVE THE GAME (to clear my cricket sins)

  1. gakku,

Cricket khelne jaane de, tujhe cricket samajhta bhi nahin hai aur tera gali team international team ko challenge kar sakta hai woh tujhe samaj mein aata hai!

Think re. Somewhere down I think you are trying hard to justify your own self about not being part of this cricket culture. You do feel left out when everyone is watching an talking about cricket. You feel lonely.

I think it is perfectly ok for someone to enjoy cricket or not. However, you should not force on yourself and lie to your own self about your likes and dislikes based on ideology.

anyways, these days I refrain from giving gyan to people. I have realised that there is only me who needs it and not the people.
