Burj Khalifa, Mulund, Sahayadri, Everest, Siddu, Shashi, M.Malli…

Burj Khalifa stands at 828m (2,717 ft). This wiki resource has not added all the structures in the 400m+ category, like the tallest buildings of the Republic of China are missing here. India is far behind in the race. The tallest candidate is from Mulund, Mumbai, standing at 249m (817 ft).

Was trying gauge what height the top of these buildings touch by comparing it with the altitudes I have travelled/trekked of. The  most fabulous trek of the Sahayadri range is in the Malshej Ghat region around Ahmednagar, Harishchandragad (Fort with an ancient Shiva Temple at top) which is at a height of about 1423m (4,671 ft). The grassland of Tapovanam stands at the height of 4463m (14640ft) in the Himalayas. [Used this site for conversions]

This site pens down the typical schedule for the trek path which me and my bro followed a few yrs back – Mumbai-Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Uttarkasi-Gangotri-Tapovanam-Gaumukh-Gangotri-Uttarkasi-Rishikesh-Haridwar-Delhi-Mumbai. Am longing to plan for the Badrinath-Gangotri one. One of the trek-guides who arranges such Himalayan expeditions dissuaded our me and my friend from planning this one due to the risk it carries with it’s harsh conditions. With blessings from Tapovanji Maharaj may be some day we will summit this one.

Can’t help but write about the great Everest which is documented to be at 8846m (29,028 ft). Malli Mastan Babu is the ONLY INDIAN (also the ONLY South Asian) to trek not just the Everest but also the other 6 highest peaks around the world. He is listed on the 7summits website which documents the valor of trekkers who have trekked all the 7 peaks of the world. I got to know about him from his IIT/IIM colleagues, Siddu & Shashi(my trek buddies @ Capgemini) who PUSHED me for the nite trek to Harishchandragad using a dying reliance mobile as the lead torch :) Siddu did his base-camp to Everest along with Malli.
